Why We Don’t Apologize for Running a Profitable Breeding Program

One question I see asked all the time is, “Who knows a breeder that isn’t in it for the money?”

If that’s what you’re looking for, I may not be the right breeder for you—and that’s okay.

Southern Nevada Goldens is a business, and I’m proud of that.

That doesn’t mean I put profits ahead of my dogs. It means I believe an ethical breeding program should be sustainable so I can continue providing exceptional care for my dogs and puppies for many years to come.

I don’t believe responsible breeders should have to rely on personal savings just to continue doing what they love. A healthy business allows me to continually invest back into my program.

Because of that, I’m able to provide:

• Extensive health testing that goes beyond the basics.

• Exceptional veterinary care whenever it’s needed.

• High-quality nutrition for every dog and puppy.

• Clean, enriching environments where my dogs can thrive.

• Countless hours raising, socializing, and evaluating every puppy before they ever leave for their new homes.

• Ongoing education so I can continue improving my breeding program and making better decisions with every generation.

• Lifetime support for every family that welcomes one of my puppies home.

There’s another part of breeding that people don’t always see—time.

Behind every Southern Nevada Goldens puppy are years of studying pedigrees, researching genetics, selecting the right pairings, caring for moms throughout pregnancy, raising healthy, confident puppies, answering questions, educating families, and being available long after Go Home Day.

When you choose one of my puppies, you’re not simply buying a Golden Retriever. You’re investing in years of knowledge, planning, experience, and a breeder who genuinely cares about the lifetime success of every puppy.

Every profession values experience and expertise. Doctors, veterinarians, electricians, teachers, and skilled tradespeople all earn a living through the knowledge they’ve spent years developing. Responsible breeders deserve the same respect for the years they’ve invested into learning genetics, health, temperament, and breed preservation.

A sustainable breeding program creates better outcomes for everyone.

When breeders constantly worry about making ends meet or feel pressured to compete by having the lowest price, something eventually suffers. That could be health testing, nutrition, veterinary care, socialization, or the support they provide after puppies go home.

I refuse to let that happen.

My goal isn’t simply to produce beautiful Golden Retrievers.

My goal is to build a breeding program that continues improving year after year—producing healthy, well-tempered Golden Retrievers while providing an exceptional experience for every family.

Could I lower my prices?

Absolutely.

But something else would have to be sacrificed, and that’s not a compromise I’m willing to make.

Instead of competing to be the cheapest, I choose to compete on quality, transparency, education, health, and lifelong support.

If that’s not what you’re looking for, I sincerely respect that. There are many wonderful breeders at different price points, and every family deserves to find the breeder that’s the best fit for them.

For me, success isn’t measured by how many puppies I sell.

It’s measured by healthy dogs, happy families, and building a breeding program that will continue serving both with excellence for decades to come.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Do you believe responsible breeders should simply cover their costs, or do you believe ethical breeding should also be a sustainable business that allows continual investment into the health, care, and future of the breed?
